Events, 2026 innovations and the groups shaping the industry.

A calendar of the region's data center events, what is changing in power, water and speed, and the associations, trade groups and AI organizations active in each country.

Events

The region's data center events, in one calendar.

DCD, Capacity, Informa, New Energy and others each run their own calendars. We put them side by side so you can plan the year.

Who runs events in LatAm

DCD (DatacenterDynamics)

Runs the largest regional series: DCD>Connect LATAM (Mexico, September) and DCD>Connect Brasil (São Paulo, November).

Capacity Media / Datacloud

Capacity LATAM and Datacloud LATAM, co-located in São Paulo, focused on carriers, subsea and interconnection.

Informa Markets

Data Center World Brasil, a three-day expo and conference at São Paulo Expo.

New Energy Events

DCPI-LATAM, centered on power, transmission and permitting for data centers.

GITEX

GITEX AI LATAM, a broad tech show with a dedicated data center infrastructure track.

What changed in 2026

Water, power and speed now decide which projects get built.

Water

Communities from Querétaro to Quilicura are pushing back on data center water use. Closed-loop liquid, two-phase direct-to-chip and fan-based designs cut on-site water to near zero. Customers now write water and energy targets into their contracts, ODATA says.

[ ] [ ] [ ] [ ]

Power

Grid queues for 100 MW+ sites can run up to seven years. Batteries are now standard in new designs, and on-site gas is filling the gap: mobile gas generators powered 200 MW of load in 122 days in one US case.

[ ] [ ]

Speed

Factory-built pods cut installation from months to days, and 1 MW of compute now fits in a 20-ft container that installs in about a day.

[ ] [ ]

Speed to market

Modular and mobile: put the compute where the power already is.

A 20-ft container with about 1 MW of IT load needs level ground, power and a network link. Three kinds of sites are worth a look.

Substations with spare capacity

Sites next to underused transmission hubs have better odds of a connection and lower connection costs.

[ ]

Curtailed renewables

Brazil discarded about 17% of potential solar and wind output in 2025, and centralized solar curtailment averaged 13.7%.

[ ]

Gas fields

Gas without pipeline capacity can run generators on site. BigSur Energy plans to bring this model to Vaca Muerta by the end of 2026, and Pampa Energía has offered 800 MW for a data center there.

Permits and studiesBrazil's REDATA regime ties tax benefits to clean power and a 0.05 L/kWh water-use threshold. Argentina's large-consumer rules require 80% new energy and 115% firm backup.[ ] [ ]
PowerBehind-the-meter gas turbines and engines, mobile gensets as bridge power, and batteries cutting diesel backup to 15–40% of load. Small modular reactors are entering plans: up to 8 MWe of micro-reactors for data center sites in Jaguariúna, Brazil, and a 300 MWe SMR announced for Argentina's Atucha site. Neither has a construction date yet.[ ] [ ] [ ] [ ]
Civil works and shellPrefabricated halls and pre-integrated pods built in a factory while site work runs in parallel.[ ]
ElectricalSolid-state transformers and MV UPS removing up to two-thirds of conversion steps; 800 VDC distribution for AI racks. In Mexico, transformer orders take 18–36 months to arrive (CloudHQ).[ ] [ ] [ ]
Mechanical and coolingClosed-loop liquid, two-phase direct-to-chip and immersion cooling with near-zero on-site water use. ODATA cites water-use targets of 0.2 L/kWh, against a historical industry average of 1.8 L.[ ] [ ]
Fire, safety and securityFire protection designed for large lithium battery rooms, now that batteries are standard in new designs.[ ]
Network and fiberNew subsea routes such as the Humboldt cable linking Chile and Australia.[ ]
White space and ITLiquid-ready racks (MGX, ORV3); AI racks at up to 227 kW, with 1 MW racks on the horizon. ODATA says rack densities rose from about 3 kW to 60–100 kW in four years.[ ] [ ]
CommissioningFactory-tested pods and containers that arrive pre-integrated, shortening site commissioning.[ ]
OperationsMicrogrid controls that run on-site generation, batteries and the grid as one system. Aggreko says on-site microgrids with cogeneration reach up to 90% primary energy use.[ ] [ ]
Associations

Industry associations and trade groups

Data center associations by country, plus regional groups. Where a country has no dedicated data center association, we list the closest tech or internet chamber and say so.

As of October 2026 we found no dedicated data center association in Ecuador, Paraguay or Bolivia. Know of one? Tell us through the contact page.

AI organizations and public bodies

Groups that shape AI talent, research and policy, and with it demand for AI data center capacity.
